Analyze learners
Characteristics of Students: This lesson is designed for students in the 5th grade. There are 20 students in the class and their ethnicities include Chamorro, Filipino, and Chuukese. There are two children in the class who are slow learners, so those two students will be placed in a group with students who understand the subject matter. Putting the two slow learners in a group with students who learn fast will help them to learn a little better.
Familiarity: Students are familiar with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. They know how to understand and read nutrition labels. Students understand how to operate Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, and Google Spreadsheets. Students are also familiar with group work.
Learning Styles:
Visual: 25%
Kinesthetic: 70%
Auditory: 5%

State objectives
Objective 1: Students will be able to analyze and collect the data of fats, sugars, and sodium from three different cereals.
Objective 2: Students will be able to organize that data and construct a chart or a graph using Powerpoint or Spreadsheets.
Objective 3: Students will be able to distinguish which cereal is least nutritional and most nutritional.




Select  instructional methods, media, and materials
Methods: Students will watch how to do it and will be given the chance to do it by themselves. They will be placed in four groups of five.
Materials: The nutritional labels of various cereals, Computers, Writing utensils, Projector or Elmo, Paper.
Media: Powerpoint, Google Spreadsheets, Wix, Internet.


Utilize media and materials
Preparing materials: Students will be provided laptops in class with internet access. Examples and instructions of the lesson will be provided and Spreadsheets and Powerpoint will have icons when students are ready to use them.

Environment preparation: Desks will be arranged in four groups of five and there will be a table where students can go to use the laptops when they have finished discussing.

Preparing the students: Showing them examples and explaining what the lesson will be about.


Require learner participation
  1. Introducing the lesson through presentation.
  2. Assign the students into groups.
  3. If students do not have nutritional labels they will be provided three different ones.
  4. On a piece of paper, record the sugar, sodium, and fat content on each of the labels.
  5. Organize the data and have them use the computers to create a chart or graph using the data they have compiled.
  6. Using Powerpoint or Elmo, the students will then present their data to the class and display which cereal was not nutritional to very nutritional.

Evaluate and revise
